Making the Magazine - Progress 10 (Double Page Spread Complete)

I have now completed my double page spread and have posted the pictures below:

<---Old--->

<---Completed--->

The reason for the zoomed out and zoomed in image is the zoomed out image does not allow you to actually see the text, only lines. The zoomed image allows for actually reading what has been written on the double page spread.

The difference between this and the last post relating to the double page spread is that now it has text on the right page of the double page spread so it is now complete.

If you have any comments on the appearance of my double page spread or have any improvements or suggestions, go ahead and leave them in a comment below :) any criticism is greatly appreciated as it allows me to make improvements :D so please be brutal :D

Anyway that's all for now :), at this point all I have left to do is write my evaluation, which I will be starting very soon. If any changes are made to my Front Cover, Contents Page or Double Page Spread I will make a post about the changes made including images, also when my evaluation is complete I will obviously post it on here :)

Anyway, till next time :)

Making the Magazine - Progress 9 (Contents Page Complete)

I have now completed my contents page for my music magazine, the changes that have been made since my last post can be seen below:

<-----Old

<-----Completed

The changes I have made are as follows:
  • I have added an image relating to the article "This Months Fan Photos - Guitars" under the section "The Usual" as well as adding a page number to the bottom right of the picture, surrounded by a white circle to help the page number stand out
  • I have added an image relating to the article "Monthly Competition Details" under the section "The Usual" as well as adding a page number to the bottom right of the picture, surrounded by a white circle to help the page number stand out
At this point I have now finished my Contents Page for my Music Magazine.

With this complete and my Front Page also complete I now only need to finish my Double Page Spread. For this I need to be in school as I do not have Adobe InDesign at home so I will finish my double page spread as soon as I get back to school.

If anyone reading this has any comments for my contents page, including any suggestions for improvements or just anything in general, please go ahead and leave a comment :)

Anyway that's all for now :), till next time :)

Making the Magazine - Progress 8

I have now added more to my contents page as you can see below:

<-----Old

<-----New

Since my last post I have added:
  • Contents down the right side of the page (including sections for the articles)
  • An editorial down the bottom right of the page
  • A picture of this issue of Genesis' editor to accompany the editorial (also the name of the editor at the top of the picture, surrounded by a white background to make it stand out)
  • A page number surrounded by a white circle to help me it stand out on the picture related to the main article of the magazine
  • The word "EXCLUSIVE" written horizontally but going down the left side of the page, surrounded by a white background to help make it stand out and laid over the image related to the main article to show it is exclusive to Genesis magazine.
I have added quite a number of new things as you can clearly see :)

I will continue my work and make another post on my progress soon, till then, happy blogging! :D

Making the magazine - Progress 7

I have now began construction on my contents page, as you can see below:

I am following my chosen design layout and so far have:
  • Placed the picture related to the main article
  • Input "Contents" into the top right of the contents page
  • Added the page number down the bottom right of the contents page, surrounded by a white circle so that it stands out
It's worth noting that though the white circles used to make the page number stand out actually go outside the page, it is not a worry as when this would be printed, because the circles go off the page only what is on the page (in this case the top left quarter of the circle) will be seen, so the desired effects I am going for will be shown.

I will be following this post soon with more progress so keep checking back for more when it comes :)

Till next time :)

Making the magazine - Progress 6

I have now made further progress with my double page spread as you can see below:

<-----Old

Current----->

The changes I have made are as follows:
  • Added text to the left page of the double page spread
  • Added  page numbers on the bottom far corners of each page on the double page spread
  • Added the word "exclusive" to the top right of the right page of the double page spread, surrounded by a black box to make it stand out.
thought the text in this image above shows up as just line, below you can see what actual text has been entered:

That's all for now :)

My next post will be me making progress on my contents page, as I am at home for the half term and do not own Adobe InDesign, I will obviously come back to this though and will put up more progress posts as I am putting th finishing touches on it :)

Till next time :)

Making the Magazine - Progress 5

I have now started construction on my double page spread, as you can see below:

So far I have chosen an A3 landscape layout with 6 columns for reference on position on the double page spread. Taken a picture of my face into photoshop, then using different effects created the image you see in the screenshot image (red and black to keep with the style of the artist within the article) and then split the image in two halves and placed them onto the background for my double page spread, the reason for the space in the middle is to compensate for the part of the image that would have been lost during printing, as this article is spread across two pages. This way the image would come out whole and connecting across the two pages.

Anyway that's all I have done for now :) I was originally going to add more images though at this point I am not sure, also it is worth mentioning that originally the image across both pages wasn't going to span the entire double page spread, but when I placed the two halves of the image it looked much better this way, so I decided to keep it the way it was.

Anyway that's all for now, till next time :D

Making the Magazine - Progress 4 (Front Page Complete)

I have now finished the front page for my music magazine, you can see how it looked and how it looks now below:

<---Old  Completed--->

As you can see there are a number of changed from how it looked last time, these changes are listed below:
  • Moved the bar code location, as I believed it worked better and looked more professional in it's new placement.
  • Added the cover lines and separators (for the cover lines) to the front cover, also the "FREE POSTER INSIDE!!!" offer was added to the front cover.
and that's everything :)

Please leave comments on what you thing of the front cover of my music magazine, plus any suggestions for improvement or just any possible idea in ways to change it, I will check back regularly and take any ideas I think are good on board and make the changes accordingly, then I will post pictures of the updated front cover :)

From here I plan to start my double page spread before my contents page, as I will be using Adobe InDesign to create it, and the only place I currently have access to that software is at school, so in the week before half term I plan to do as much of the double page spread as possible :)

Anyway that's all for now, please leave comments and cya next time :D
